Who: The new entrance to Valletta is much less familiar!

Comments: I didn't want to comment on this controversial new entrance until I'd seen it. I seem to be one of only a few people who finds it very impressive! We loved the old Victorian Kingsgate but it was too narrow for the entrance of any impressive vehicle which had to come down the narrow street from Castille. A new one (which looked as if it had been built by MFI for Mussolini) was opened in 1964. The new one is very 20thC but echoes the shapes and angles of the bastion walls round it.

From: Liz Mardel, Monday, 3 November 2014, 7:47 PMI think the centre part is finished, Phill, but I don't know about that open bit on the right. The Parliament building behind certainly isn't! A pity I wont be around in 50 years' time to see how people feel about it then!
