    Hi Liz,
You are quite right, the gates have been updated when Steve took the shot, from "our" gates. I think my shot is of the same gate taken by Steve in 2001, but from "inside" the school and with the gate open.
    Hope this explains everything!!

Whoops, amendment! Steve took the second picture in 2001

David Woolfenden asked if he'd photographed 'our' gate. Not so I'm afraid David! Take a look at these. When Adrian Baker took the first one in 1994 our old gate was in a bit of a mess. By the time Steve Mathews visited the Maltese Liceo and took the second picture in 1994 the gate had been replaced with a near-replica but NOT QUITE! Do you remember those 'Spot the difference' books? Well get going, there are a myriad of differences! And David, had they re-hung the gates or did you reverse your photograph so that we could read 'Verdala'?!

It looks very much as if the two sturdy smaller trees have grown from the base of our tall, now very skinny one. Needs a bit of close inspection next year, methinks!

That was the scene of lots of staff and class photos but there were shutters on the upper windows then.

What a splendid lot of pictures David, you certainly made the most of your visit! Many thanks for sharing them.

When I had a classroom (or two!) in that block I never noticed that it had a notice saying 'Infant School' on it! I wonder if it was from the days of the Dockyard School before the war - or maybe the International School that came after us. In our time the Infants were in the opposite block and the long low one between that's long gone!

The old school entrance looking a little unloved and tatty. What a shame!
Notice that concrete steps have been built half way up the driveway.

The old main entrance. Do you remember trudging wearily down the hill to catch the bus after a hot and tiring day at school? Taken in September 2009. This entrance is no longer used as far as I could see, a new vehicular entrance/exit is now used.

The original gates?? This was taken in September 2009. Notice the "VERDALA" heading and the Naval crest

Looking acrosss the playground to the Infants block at left. New buildings are background centre. This shot was taken during Sept 2009 in the summer recess, and the pupils in the picture are being briefed for their attendance the following week. taken June 2009
